I made short ribs for tonight’s family dinner. It is a good hearty meal for a cold winter’s night. This is a one dish dinner, we had garlic toast and white rice, and supper was complete.
I got this recipe from a friend, originallly it is for ox tail stew. The first time I made it I used short ribs instead because I found ox tails are usually too fat. The short ribs worked really well in this sauce and so it is now a family favorite.
3 lbs of beef short ribs
1/2 a head of a small cabbage, washed and chopped
1 chopped green pepper
1 cup of baby carrots
1 jar of spaghetti sauce
2 cups of red wine
1 piece of brown sugar
1 piece of yellow sugar ( both from Chinese groceries)
1 1/2 tsp of chili flakes
1 tbsp of oyster sauce
2 tsp of soya sauce
Preheat oven to 375.
Washed short ribs, cut into 1 inch pieces, put in oven proof casserole.
Put in chopped green pepper, spaghetti sauce, wine, chili flakes, brown and yellow sugar, oyster and soya sauce. Baked covered for one hour.
After one hour, put in all the vegetables, cover and cook for two more hours.
Once in a while, stir pot to mix.
